Why Mauritius is a dream wedding destination
Mauritius combines tropical beaches, mountain backdrops and luxury resorts within a compact island. That variety makes it one of the best wedding destinations in the Indian Ocean, whether you want 200 guests or an intimate elopement.
As a local photographer, I have shot at most of the island’s top venues. The right choice depends on your style, guest count and the kind of light you love.
Beachfront resorts in the north
Grand Baie and Trou aux Biches are famous for calm lagoons and golden sunsets. Resorts here suit couples who want a relaxed ceremony followed by a toes-in-the-sand reception. Popular choices include Lux* Grand Baie, One&Only Le Saint Géran and The Ravenala Attitude.
Garden and colonial venues
If you prefer manicured gardens and historic charm, the west and central regions offer beautiful colonial houses and botanical settings. Château de Bel Ombre and Domaine de Grand Baie are favourites for classic, elegant weddings.
Intimate elopement spots
For two-person ceremonies, Le Morne, Albion and the south-east coast provide dramatic scenery without the resort crowd. Sunrise shoots at Le Morne are especially memorable.
Booking your wedding photographer
Most venues have a short list of recommended suppliers, but you are free to bring your own photographer. Book 6–12 months ahead for peak season (May–October) and confirm whether travel fees apply to your chosen venue.
